Downtown San Jose is the central business district of the city located north of I-280 and east of the Guadalupe Parkway,  101 to the north and Coyote Creek to the east.  It was first settled in 1797, much of the area has been designated on the National Register of Historic Places and home to many of the city's landmarks.  Dowtown San Jose is business headquarters for Adobe Systems and Knight-Ridder.  Downtown also is location of the San Jose Museum of Art, the Tech Museum of Innovation,  the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, San Jose State University, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.  Also in the area is HP Pavilion, home of San Jose Hockey, Lacrosse, and Arena Football.
