San Jose was first settled in 1797 and much of the downtown area has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. San José is the capital of Silicon Valley and California’s 3rd largest and the nation’s 10th largest city. Twenty-nine out of the nation’s 100 fastest growing technology companies are located in Silicon Valley which include the headquarters of Adobe Systems and Knight-Ridder located in downtown San Jose. Rich in history and cultural diversity, San Jose proudly features the San Jose Museum of Art, the Tech Museum of Innovation, the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, San Jose State University, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. For theatre and entertainment look to popular San Jose venues such as the nationally acclaimed San Jose McEnery Convention and Cultural Facilities Center which include the San Jose Civic Auditorium and the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.
